The International College of China Academy of Art is a subsidiary institute in charge of academic programs for the overseas non-resident students and international artistic exchanges. It has three teaching units, which offer high quality courses in Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese culture and language. The International College also provides students with courses in art history and theory, visual culture, archaeology and museology, oil painting, print-making, inter-media art, sculpture, design art, public art and architecture design. Its principal objective is to promote the Chinese art and cultures to the world, encourage international artistic exchanges and enhance friendship with people of the world. The China Academy of Art began to enroll overseas students in 1980. Nearly 4000 international students have studied in the School. It enrolls about 700 short-term and long-term overseas students currently.

All overseas non-resident applicants can attend the degree and non-degree programs in the International College and other colleges/departments at the China Academy of Art. In general, undergraduate students can finish all the credit hours within six years of admission , and graduate students can remain in the program for six years (for the major of sculpture and architecture, the maximum study length is 7 years).
