"Opera Figures”, ink and color on oriental paper, 16" x 20 ", 2012 Prof Genbao Zhou is working at his studio in Shanghai Artist's Short Bio: Zhou Genbao, who also signs his work as Xiashang and Abao, was born on March 2, 1945 in Shanghai, China. He graduated from Shanghai Fine Arts College majored in Chinese Painting. In 1963, Mr. Zhou was appointed as a consultant to the Painting Department of Shanghai Museum where his reproduction of classical Chinese paintings and research articles earned critical acclaim nationwide. His art works have been exhibited in China, Europe, and the United States. Throughout his artistic life, Mr. Zhou was inspired from performance art of Chinese Opera and he has devoted himself in Chinese Opera figures paintings for over 50 years. His works emphasize on the abstract rhythm of the figure motions; therefore, they always reflect the classical style with contemporary flavor. Mr. Zhou Genbao has settled in the United States since 1986. |
